Objective: To remove excess skin and fat on the arms, from the armpit to the elbow.
Procedure duration: 1.5 to 3 hours
Pain level: 4/10
Recovery time: 10 to 15 days
Resumption of physical activities: 4 to 6 weeks
As you age, the skin on your arms changes, often sagging and becoming loose. Fluctuations in weight may also result in fat accumulation on the arms. Sometimes this can cause body image issues and people will avoid baring their arms or wearing sleeveless clothing. An arm lift, combined with liposuction, may be the solution to more flattering arms and a boost to your self-esteem.
The operation is performed under general anaesthesia and combines liposuction of the arms, forearms, and even chest area, followed by the removal of excess skin.
This operation lasts between 1.5 hours and 3 hours depending on the extent of the excess skin and fat.
An arm lift is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can go home the same day as the operation. You will be discharged after thorough postoperative monitoring.
You will need to have a companion bring you home and monitor you for the first 24 hours. We also recommend having someone to help you with daily tasks for the first week following surgery.
To prepare for the consultation, compile all relevant health information (list of medications, doctors’ reports, list of previous surgeries, etc.) Dr. Boudana will ask about your medical history and perform a physical exam.
What happens in the consultation?
During the consultation, Dr Boudana will be very attentive to your expectations.
Dr. Boudana will examine your arms and will consider all factors that can influence the aesthetic result such as arm width and shape, the amount of fat, skin quality, and the position of the excess skin (arms, forearm, elbow, axillary region).
Dr. Boudana will discuss scar location and length with you.
He uses different techniques and adapts his choice of technique to the patient’s expectations and clinical findings. He can propose an arm lift with an inner arm or outer arm incision, or a short incision in the underarm (axillary).
Dr. Boudana will then photograph your arms from different angles and place these photographs in your medical record. These photographs will be kept strictly confidential.
As mentioned above, there are several surgical techniques and Dr. Boudana has a great deal of experience in all of them. The location of scars can therefore vary depending on the technique used. Incisions can be placed on the inner or outer arm, or close to the armpit.
After the surgery, you will have to wear a compression garment for two to six weeks to reduce swelling and compress the scars. We provide the compression garment and place it before you wake up in the recovery room.
After the surgery, you will receive a personalized follow-up. Our nurses will also be available and will perform the first dressing change at our clinic, typically one week after surgery.
You will be given a postoperative instruction sheet when you are discharged as well as a prescription for pain medication.
All our follow-up appointments are free of charge for the first year after your surgery.
We understand that cosmetic surgery is an important decision that requires a lot of thought. It also involves considerable stress and costs. Therefore, we are committed to providing high-quality services and take care of all the details related to the procedure (compression garment provided, pre-operative check-up at the clinic, pre-scheduled follow-up appointments, etc.) so you can focus on your recovery.
