15 Aug Breast implants profiles and projections
Having specialized in breast implants and breast augmentation surgery for many years, I understand that making an informed choice is about patients knowing more about their options…and with breast augmentation surgery there are a lot of different options to consider. A large part of how your implants will look, relies on the profile and projection you choose, and how proportional these are to your body and desired result.
What is an implant profile?
The profile of your implant refers to how much the implant projects away from the chest. When lying flat, this can be seen as the height of the implant. As size of an implant increases, the implant dimensions can either get wider and have the same projection or have more projection while keeping the same width. Profiles come ranging from low to extra high.
Lower/Mid-Profile implants
Low-profile breast implants lie the flattest. This profile best suits a woman who has a wider torso. If you can imagine, a wider implant is needed so that the implants help fill out the chest and maintain a natural looking position and smaller cleavage gap. In this situation, a high-profile implant may give lots of projection, but may also leave too much space in between the breasts.
High/Extra high-Profile implants
High-profile implants are taller and have more projection away from the body. They almost have a semi-circle shape in the extra high-profile range. These implants are great for women who desire a deeper cleavage and “bustier” profile. In some cases, a higher profile is best suited to patients who have a narrower torso.
While it is natural for patients to have a hard time deciding on their implant profile, we have a variety of tools to make this decision easier. Our virtual 3D simulator can help patients see how different implant profiles will look on their bodies. Together we discuss your results and come up with a range of profiles for you to choose from.
