Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the world. It is a painless and highly effective procedure for the radical and permanent removal of localized fat deposits.

These targeted localized fat deposits usually do not disappear with diet and exercise.

What is the SAFElipo® technique?

Liposuction uses small incisions through which a thin hollow tube or cannula is inserted. The cannula has a round, non-sharp end with several openings and is connected to a closed-circuit suction.

The fat is detached from the surrounding tissue through the cannula and then aspirated.

Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) uses a power-assisted cannula that moves back and forth as it is carefully guided through the treatment area by the surgeon.

This is the most modern technique and allows a consistent detachment of the fat cells by the surgeon.

Dr. Boudana uses the latest generation MicroAire system, the most advanced PAL system on the market.

Dr. Boudana practises SAFELipo®, a liposuction technique developed by Dr. Simeon H. Wall Jr. This technique reduces the risk of post-liposuction irregularities, and equalizes the remaining thin fat layer in the treated areas.

SAFElipo® is an acronym that describes the different steps of liposuction:
S: Separation: The first step involves fat separation in conjunction with infiltration by the MicroAire system connected to an infiltration pump.
A: Aspiration: The second step involves the aspiration of fat cells.
FE: Fat Equalization: The final step is fat equalization. This step is crucial and involves equalizing the thin layer of fat that remains to reduce the risk of irregularities. This step is performed with the specialized basket cannula connected to the MicroAire device without suction.

Is the fat loss permanent?

Liposuction is the permanent removal of fat cells. However, as liposuction is not a weight-loss treatment, a patient can regain weight over time. The goal of liposuction is to treat a localized, stubborn accumulation of fat, and create a more visually pleasing silhouette.

Thus, properly executed liposuction does not replace lifestyle improvements. Liposuction is not a cure for being overweight or obese.

Abdominal liposuction

Abdominal liposuction is a common procedure with great results if skin quality is good and there is not too much excess skin. Two to three small incisions are made in the inguinal and suprapubic area, and sometimes an incision is made in the navel area, to insert the liposuction cannulas, which will suck the fat from the abdomen.
The SAFElipo® technique is once again the technique of choice. This technique reduces belly roundness, targeting fat deposits in the area and limiting the risk of irregularities and asymmetry. High-definition liposuction can also be performed on the abdomen in patients who are candidates for this procedure.

Lipo360 is a procedure used to achieve dramatic changes in the silhouette.

It is a 360-degree liposuction of the midsection that treats the upper and lower abdominal area, the flanks, saddlebags, and back. Lipo360 produces a more harmonious, hourglass figure.

The procedure is often combined with a fat transfer to the buttocks. The aspirated fat is injected into the buttocks as part of a Brazilian butt lift. This is a popular combination with female patients and it provides the perfect opportunity to obtain definition from both the front and side.

What is high-definition liposuction?

High-definition liposuction or “high-def lipo” removes fat from the superficial layer of the skin, providing patients who are in good physical shape with more muscle definition. This procedure targets the layer of fat that is difficult to get rid of with diet and a healthy lifestyle.

The procedure consists of aspirating fat from the deep layer and the superficial layer of the skin in specific areas of the body, providing muscle definition and creating a more athletic appearance.

What is abdominal etching?

Abdominal etching uses high-definition liposuction to enhance and sculpt the rectus abdominis also known as the “six pack.” This procedure is suitable for patients in good physical shape but with slight to moderate excess fat in the abdominal area. High-def lipo will help define the abdominal muscles and provides a more pronounced athletic appearance depending on the patient’s preference.

What areas of the body can be treated?

Liposuction can be applied to many areas of the body:

– Abdomen;
– Thighs;
– Saddlebags;
– Knees;
– Calves;
– Ankles;
– Arms;
– Back;
– Neck.

Consultation preparation

To properly prepare for the consultation, compile all your relevant medical and health information (list of medications, doctors’ reports, history of previous surgeries, etc.). Dr. Boudana will also ask about your medical history.

What happens in the consultation?

During the consultation, Dr. Boudana will be very attentive to your expectations.

Dr. Boudana will examine the area of the body that you wish to treat and will consider all factors that can influence the aesthetic result such as the amount of excess fat and skin and the quality of the skin.

Dr. Boudana will then photograph your body from different angles and place these photographs in your medical record. These photographs will be kept strictly confidential.

He will then take a 3D scan of your body and create simulations to choose the most appropriate solution to achieve your desired result. A virtual reality simulation is also offered.

Where is the surgery performed?

Dr. Boudana only operates on patients in private state-of-the-art operating rooms accredited by Accreditation Canada. This accreditation is a guarantee that the facilities meet stringent safety and quality standards.

The procedure

Once under general anaesthesia, the skin in the area to be treated is carefully disinfected. A few 2- to 4-mm incisions are made to insert the liposuction cannulas.

Then the Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) is performed using the SAFElipo® technique.

The incisions are then closed and a dressing is applied.

After the surgery

Compression garments help your body adapt to its new shape, reducing the risk of skin wrinkling or a lax appearance. You should wear the garment for three to six weeks according to your individual postoperative recommendations.

Immediately after the procedure, you may experience swelling in the treated area and final results will only be visible once swelling has gone down.

Typically, the final results will be visible three months after the procedure once all the swelling has subsided.

We strongly recommend massaging the treated areas starting the second week after the surgery. This improves skin suppleness and prevents irregularities. The massage should be performed by a professional massage therapist.

After the surgery, you will receive a personalized follow-up. Our nurses will also be available and will perform the first dressing change at our clinic, typically one week after surgery.

You will be given a postoperative instruction sheet when you are discharged as well as a prescription for pain medication.

All our follow-up appointments are free of charge for the first year after your surgery.

With more than 10 years of experience in plastic surgery, Dr. Boudana will guide and advise you in obtaining desired results.
